Solving Word Problems:
When solving word problems, there are certain steps that will help students successfully solve the problems:
1. Read the question completely - underline it
2. Separate relevant and irrelevant information and numbers
3. Determine what specific question is being asked - what information needs to be found
4. Identify key words - circle them
5. Determine which operation(s) to use to solve the problem (addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division) and write down the math problems
Draw a picture, make a chart/table, guess and check, solve similar problems, or
use another problem-solving tool if necessary
6. Complete operations
7. Label the answer correctly
